The Moon Knows: Why Your Emotions Are More Reliable Than Your Mind Right Now

There’s a strength in feeling your emotions, and I think some people forget that. When you do, you’re opening yourself to the vastness that is your insides. It’s a deep, colored complexity that wraps around your past, fears, vulnerability and inner wonder. But it’s bravery. Because with each tear and each moment of awareness, there comes a knowing that’s stronger than running. You’ve rooted yourself into the depth of your being, and from that, you’ve found an answer.

In astrology, the Moon is connected to your emotions. It’s also tied to how you were nurtured, how you nurture yourself, your habits, your past, your home, your mother, your family, your stomach, and the female menstrual cycle. It’s yin, intuitive, deeply knowing, and reflective.

In today’s world, we too often follow the habits of the Sun. The Sun in astrology represents the ego, the father, leadership, independence, and intelligence.

Both are useful—but both need each other. I find often—don’t you?—when you ask how someone is, they’ll always say, “I’m fine.” When usually, that’s not the case. What they may want to say is that they’re stressed, tired, they haven’t been laid in way too long, or they’re scared about the economy, the state of the world, and the wars that are horrific and unreasonable at best.

But we hide our Moon, our emotions, because at some point it was ingrained in us to shut it off, turn it down, and instead puff up the chest and put on a good face.

Right now, there’s a looming feeling of a thunder crack. Do you feel it? Or should I say—we feel like something is going to explode. We see or sense that the structures we rely on are shaky and unstable. I find this often shows up as anxiety or extra attention on our mental plane. And that, in astrology, is Mercury.

Currently, Mercury is retrograde in Leo, (July 17th - August 11th). This makes us aware of how our perspective is not being heard. We’re realizing, what about me? This retrograde also brings confusion with information. But Mercury retrograde isn’t the only thing creating mental confusion—so does the South Node in Virgo. The South Node in Virgo arrived January 10th and will leave July 26, 2026. This long transit creates vast uncertainty around what our minds should focus on or make sense of. Many of us are confused, scattered, and anxious. Information and news have become increasingly unclear, inconsistent, and sometimes just plain fake. Our own individual views and political stance’s are becoming more conflicted. The South Node in Virgo disrupts our mental processes—and that’s really hard in this day and age.

So why bring up emotion and the Moon? Because that kind of awareness is actually more reliable. Yes, your emotions right now are more reliable than your mental processes. Using both together is key, of course—but extracting the emotional aspect leaves you confused, anxious, questioning, and scattered.

Right now, Jupiter is in Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon—your emotions. Jupiter loves being in Cancer. It’s a benefic planet that brings hope, luck, happiness, and growth. So now’s the time to stop and listen—to the tightness in your chest, between your shoulder blades, deep in your  belly and even your groin. These are common places where we subconsciously hold tension to reject unwanted emotions. The body holds emotions. When you pause your mind and give loving attention to your body that lives in this moment, it will speak to you. And your body can give very helpful information.

We forget we’re spiritual beings too. Our bodies are entwined around something that many have long forgotten to value—our intuition. It is a sense just as strong, if not stronger, than the mind, because emotion feeds the mind. The emotions you block still come out—through the relationships you choose, the addictions you have, or the emptiness you feel. Jupiter in Cancer strengthens our intuition and emotions. We’re all becoming more in tune and more sensitive. Some—like most water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces)—are comfortable with this. But other signs may find it harder to get used to. Repression of emotions and intuition can show up as anxiety or anger. So try to lean in, Allow it to wash over you, heal you, speak to you, awaken you. You are more powerful than you think—we all are. But along the way, we’ve forgotten. From staring at blue screens and endless swiping.

More Astro news for the rest of the week:

Mars has just moved into Libra today on August 6th and will stay there until September 22nd. Mars in Libra brings a drive for fairness and justice. It can also create indecision around action, and an impulse to overextend yourself in hopes of keeping everyone happy. Mars in Libra is in an air sign, so it will also affect our nervous systems. Our minds may become overwhelmed with thinking about everyone else, and by doing so, we might forget to check in on our own well-being. So pause—and remember self-love and inner balance. The lovely thing about this placement is that it builds energy for creativity and connection with others.

On August 9th, a big transit will take place. Mars in Libra will trine Uranus in Gemini, oppose Saturn and Neptune in Aries, and sextile Uranus in Gemini. And to add to this—Uranus, Mars, Saturn, and Neptune are all aspecting Pluto.

So, what does this mean? I feel this is the start of a new awareness. This is a time when we realize the systems in place aren’t working, and something big needs to happen to create change. A lot of us are already feeling this. But with Mars in Libra involved, this can create a rush of adrenaline. That adrenaline says to your body, wait—we can’t stand for this! This will also be felt personally. You may suddenly realize that certain aspects of you life need to change..You may become more aware of the barriers holding you back—and how unjust that is. Pluto and Saturn in this mix adds pressure. This pressure is from being controlled in some way or having your power taken away. In  a nutshell it’s not having the freedom to be who you really are.  That pressure has always been there—this transit just makes you see it clearly.

The full moon in Aquarius on the 9th continues this energy. Full moons heighten emotion, but they also bring a point of culmination-[: What should I do next? Should I change course, or stay where I’m at and deal? I think this full moon will also inspire communities to come together in hopes of helping one another.

In conclusion, life is a beautifully complex gift—and I truly believe it’s a gift. Let’s use this time of uncertainty and new awareness to be there for each other. Let’s also remember to pause and be honest, kind, and compassionate with ourselves. This pausing is so important—because when we see the struggles within ourselves—grief, happiness, fear, sadness, pain, confusion, and the desire for connection—we can hopefully see we’re all just trying to figure it out. So give your fellow person love.

Even if it’s just in your mind, from afar—I believe that makes a difference too.
